Winged Seeds(2025)
Winged Seeds by Jia Sung @jiazilla is an exhibition composed of painted portraits framed by embroidered motifs of so-called “invasive” plants gathering ideas of diasporic memory, family archives, and ecological entanglements. Shaped in collaboration with Chinatown community members, workshop attendees gathered to stitch the frames for painted ancestral portraits and share family histories—interweaving personal memory with the legacy of displacement.
I did the exhibition branding for this body of work, including the exhibition design, postcard, social assets, and risograph catalog released in mid-July. Fully bilingual in Chinese and English, the visual identity is inspired by the collaborative stitching of textiles and the movement of human and non-human beings. In its details, the text becomes another form of stitchery reinforcing ideas of ecological movement, migration and family to connect across spatial planes. Invading and intersecting on the page, language refuses to be easily controlled—words embody people, vines, and structures, becoming additional ways of blooming.
