Rey Carlson (they/them) is a Chinese designer, visual artist and writer based in Brooklyn, NY (Lenapehoking land). Their work often explores subjects such as queerness as refuge, Chinese mythology and storytelling, and loss. Rey is interested in investigating themes centering queer alchemy as an interpersonal healing, intentional generosity > output, and always taking your shoes off at the door.

Rey recently designed at WeShouldDoItAll and is a part of OTHER PUBLISHING, a queer and trans Asian small format publisher. Their books have been sold at stores around the world such as Printed Matter, Wing on Wo & Co.Ooga Booga, XXXI, After 8 Books, and Wolfman Books and are available at the New York Public Library. They have designed for and with clients such as Nontsikelelo Mutiti, Penguin Random House, the Studio Museum in Harlem, Museum of the City of New York, VIACOM CBS, A—B Partners, Jorge Ignacio Cortiñas, VCUarts Department of Graphic Design, Scope of Work, and others. Their work has been shown at Printed Matter’s NYABF, LAABF, BKABFSomething Special Studios, Precog Magazine, and at Video Snack 7 and have performed readings at Nowadays NYC, BKABF, and others.
